Douglas Quin Workshop at WIRED Lab
On Saturday 16 and Sunday 17 June Quin will present a workshop ‘From Field to Publication’. During the workshop Quin will discuss audio equipment and field recording techniques and share with workshop participants his approaches to recording wildlife and natural soundscapes in environments around the world. Later, aspects of production such as the translation of recordings and experiences for publication in avenues such as films, games, artistic exhibitions and historical exhibits will also be discussed. This workshop will be ideal for emerging and midcareer composers, sound designers, naturalists and artists with an interest in music and the arts of sound. Places are limited and we will make selections by an Expression of Interest (EOI) process. Residents from around Australia are encouraged to apply. Please note that residents of NSW will have the opportunity to access our ‘WIRED EARS’ (Emerging Artist Residency Scheme) subsidy program, which will assist them with the costs of attending the workshop, which will be held onsite at The WIRED Lab. World Soundscape Project Database
The World Soundscape Project Database is an extensive online collection of all audio and text documents associated with the work of the WSP at Simon Fraser University since the 1970s. It includes digitized versions of the entire WSP Tape Collection (from the 1970s, 1990s and 2010-11), Sound References in Literature, all of the official and related publications of the WSP as pdf’s (many being out of print or difficult to locate), lectures and interviews, as well as Barry Truax’s HTML presentation materials dealing with a wide range of topics including soundscape composition, electroacoustic music techniques and the detailed documentation of 12 of his works.

Out Hear Events
Out Hear takes people into Australia’s special outdoor spaces for a unique experience of sound and listening. On these soundwalks our ears are opened to the sounds around us, helping us to deeply connect with the land and life of Australia. They are refreshing nature-based cultural experiences with artists creating sounds that resonate in these specific environments. Out Hear is run by AFAE member, Dale Gorfinkel.

The Australian Forum for Acoustic Ecology is very excited to have Douglas Quin, an iconic field recordist, present his extensive knowledge of place and sound. After successful presentations in Brisbane and ANU, Canberra on Antarctica, he will be in Melbourne to expand on his experiences and processes of field recording and Acoustic Ecology. Dr Douglas Quin is a media manipulator and a master of Sound recording. He is coming to Melbourne to talk about his experience and thoughts on landscape and nature with specific regard to Antarctica and other wild places he has been to.

The Melbourne Open House phenomenon has invited the AFAE to participate in their program this year and it is an exciting inclusion to an event that is favourite event amongst Melbourne residents. Evening soundwalks at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival
This year the Melbourne international Jazz Festival will be hosting a series of Evening Soundwalks to discover Melbourne’s distinctive sonic landscape. This is a free event that will encourage deeper and more considered approaches to sound and the understanding of contemporary music. They will be a simple and potent contrast to the traditional music festival audience experience. The Australian Forum for Acoustic Ecology is currently putting together the next Journal of Acoustic Ecology. 
Previous issues of the journal can be accessed here. Journals are available in a PDF format. A free copy of the current Acrobat Reader can be downloaded directly from Adobe. The next Journal of Acoustic Ecology will be edited by CASE (Canada) and is due out late 2010.
